Communication is a privilege humans can easily take for granted. I believe every child deserves to feel as though their opinions and thoughts matter and can be heard. My goal is to help children reach their milestones, regardless of how big or small.

I am very much a whole person-centered therapist. I believe in looking at all areas and factors that may contribute, or affect a client’s growth and development. I thrive on solving problems and seeing clients make progress. I love helping someone else achieve what they did not think was possible. It is so rewarding to look back with a client and see how far they’ve come in time. I love this profession in that there is never a dull day, a monotonous routine, or mindless work. There are definitely challenges that push me but I also love the search to “figure it out.” I get the privilege to work with a wide variety of people and teams with many skills and abilities and walk with them on a path to make a difference in their lives, whatever that may be. I absolutely love my job.

I do this work because I want to make a positive impact in others’ lives. Communication is essential to all areas of life and if I can help others communicate more clearly, their lives can be improved. Children inspire me because of their enthusiasm and readiness for new adventures/learning. The best service comes from building a relationship with children, families, and others who serve our students. I believe that every day should be about being a better version of our previous self. As we become better versions of ourselves it enables us to empower others toward personal growth and success. By becoming a better me, I can support others in becoming a better them. This, in turn, may lead to them empowering their own families and communities. It is a growth mindset that encourages others to live with intent, purpose, and personal meaning, and to spread the flame of hope and potential. The simplest way to say this is: “Kids (all people) do well if they can,” so let’s give them the tools so they can.

My enthusiasm for speech and language stems from my love for American Sign Language (ASL). Growing up with a mother who was hard-of-hearing, ASL fostered within me a richer understanding of the cultural and sociological underpinnings of communication and language, including that of a largely underrepresented population. I became captivated by a career in which I could help individuals of all populations overcome adversities and obstacles in communication, inclusive of non-speech forms. I am humbled to work in this field, and feel so lucky to both support and inspire self-expression every day.

“Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow” -Anthony D’Angelo. I strongly believe that all people are unique and each individual child’s strengths and needs should be looked at as just that. One of the core reasons I love being a school psychologist is that I have the opportunity to help students, families, and school teams to recognize and celebrate all growth and progress. I believe that every student has the capacity to learn and make growth at their own pace. We should meet students where they are at throughout their educational journey and help them to discover their passions and potential while supporting them to have the necessary tools and skills that they need to engage with their learning.

Stefani Anderson, School Psychologist

In the beginning of my career, my “why” was to advocate for vulnerable populations. I became a school psychologist because I wanted all children with disabilities to have equitable access to a free and appropriate public education. Today, my “why” is so much more than that! In my experiences with students, staff, and families, I have built a passion for strengths-based approaches to diverse abilities and cultures. I believe in educating families on their rights, and being a proponent for IDEA, ADA, and state law as it pertains to schools. Additionally, as the parent of a child with a disability, I know what it feels like to be on the “other side of the table.” This personal experience has enlightened the ways in which I perform my own job duties as a school psychologist with regard to team collaboration, communication, and sensitivity.

I have been interested in working in special education for as long as I can remember. My oldest brother has autism and does not talk. In hindsight, he was my first experience with behavior modification. He didn’t always get to go places because he was loud. As a child, I took pride in helping him to act appropriately so that he could join our family on outings like trips to the mall or attending church. I am a school psychologist because I want to help students and parents understand each child’s unique set of strengths and weaknesses to achieve success now and in the future. I want to feel like I am making a difference when I go to work every day. I enjoy working in a profession that allows me to utilize my strengths as a problem solver and a collaborator.

I’ve always held a strong belief that all children deserve and should have the right to equitable access to the resources that they need to develop into adulthood. I choose to be a conduit for that access. I believe that struggle is necessary and perseverance is a part of life’s growth, however, that should not be a qualifier for a child’s reliance and success. Claudia DiFalco, Speech-Language Pathologist

Prior to going back to grad school, I worked as an in-home caregiver for 3 years. I loved what I did, getting to meet with people in vulnerable moments and figure out how to best support them with their day to day activities, as well as being a companion so their family could have respite. I worked closely with a client with dementia and she often needed quite complex care. One thing that was clear in her memory was that she “used to be one of the first speech and language pathologists!” She loved talking about working with her students and what an impact they had on her life, her vivid memories were a testament to how special being an SLP was to her. She was one of the people who inspired me to look into speech myself. I began my career working with the older population and loved it. When I switched to school-age students, I was worried I wouldn’t be as skilled or be able to connect as well with them. It turns out, I really enjoy working with middle and high school students, particularly with students who are neuro-divergent. My students inspire me every day to be the best version of myself as a clinician and as a human. I could share so much more, if you ever want to chat speech, let’s grab a cup of coffee!
